Overview

Abingdon and Witney College is a semi-rural college based on two campuses in Oxfordshire in the south of England. In addition to the main campuses, the College has a stud farm which forms part of the equine department, and Warren farm where the land-based studies are run. Both campuses are within 15 minutes of the city of Oxford and within one hour of London. Oxford is within easy reach of international airports. The historic towns of Abingdon and Witney offer shops, restaurants and cafés, and a greater range of cinemas, theatres, clubs can be found in Oxford.

Abingdon and Witney College is a state college of further education providing academic, vocational and professional courses for adults of all ages. Successful students leave us to continue their studies at university or to take up their chosen careers in the UK or abroad. There are nine study areas: academic studies; arts, media and performance; care, health and supported education; engineering; equine studies; information and office technology; and land-based studies.

Academic strengths

The Abingdon schools partnership allows us to offer a wide variety of accredited qualifications including AS- and A-level GCEs in many subjects. We also have a strong Business Department offering many specialised courses to postgraduate level, a large Arts and Performing Arts Department, now in new buildings, and a very well established Equine Department which offers courses in thoroughbred horse management from its stud farm near the Witney Campus. For statistics on our college performance please visit or website.

Facilities

The library and resource centres contain 20,000 books, videos and audio tapes covering all subjects studied at Abingdon, as well as fiction and books of recreational interest. A choice of newspapers and periodicals are also stocked and there are facilities for students to use the internet, CD-Roms and a range of software. Students can use the facilities to email family and friends at home.

The library and resource centres give students the chance to use up-to-date resources to help with their courses. Staff can book a workstation for students and can be approached for help with enquiries. Student working hours are spent in modern classrooms, workshops, laboratories or studios. There are photocopying facilities for student use, as well as audiovisual and video recording services. There are over 300 networked Pentium computer workstations linked to laser printers. The open-access IT facility is available for use when students are not timetabled for classes.

Student life

All full-time students are automatically members of Abingdon’s Student Association. The Student Association officers are elected annually, one of which is an international student with special responsibility for all overseas student issues. The Student Association plays an active role in running Abingdon and in the organisation of social events. The College aims to ensure that students are well looked after at Abingdon and Witney College and provides a network of support staff. This includes a counsellor, a personal tutor who can help students with their academic choices and, in the Student Centre, academic and careers advisers who can provide help with accommodation and transport. The International Officer is also available to help students with all aspects of their stay at the College.

We offer a range of sporting activities throughout the year and there is access to subsidised beauty and complementary therapy treatments. Our performing arts students also put on regular shows.
