£ £ Overview

£ £ Bournville College was founded in 1913, and is based on an attractive landscaped campus in the south of Birmingham. We have won a range of national and regional awards covering service to the customer, the quality of teaching, and health and safety. In 2002, we were "highly commended" for our care and support of international students.

£ £ Bournville is a college that believes in the value of merging proved, traditional educational standards with all the advantages of new technology. The college is also committed to the twin concepts of widening participation in education and lifelong learning. The College has 40 years' experience of teaching international students, with over 75 different countries currently represented at the college.

£ £ Academic strengths

£ £ Bournville College provides a wide range of internationally recognised courses, alongside free English language testing and language support throughout your course.

£ £ The College offers a range of sixteen subjects at AS- and A-level, including Psychology, Information Technology and Business Studies. Foundation Access to University programmes in Business and Information Technology are also available to international students. These are one-year full-time courses, linked to universities, designed to equip students with the necessary skills and English language ability for successful study at a British University.

£ £ The Advanced vocational Certificate in Education (AVCE) is offered in Business, Information Communication Technology, Leisure and Recreation/Travel and Tourism, Media and Science. It may be possible to study programmes below advanced level that allow for progression to advanced programmes. GNVQs are also available at Intermediate and Foundation levels.

£ £ A wide range of English courses are offered throughout the year, including an intensive summer school. The specialised modules available include a grammar workshop, English for Business, and British Life and Culture. Most students follow the course for a complete academic year; the minimum study period is one term.

£ £ Facilities

£ £ Recreational facilities include a hall and a weights room. Activities for students include aerobics, board games, table tennis, pool, basketball, five-a-side football, and a video club. There are reduced rates for students to use facilities such as squash courts and a swimming pool at the nearby Gillett Sports Centre.

£ £ We also have industry standard IT facilities, with 500 computers available to all students. Access to the internet is free of charge, and each student has an individual email address. The Library Resource Centre contains over 20,000 items, mainly books, popular periodicals, daily national newspapers, videos, cassettes and CD-ROMs.

£ £ The College has a large, easily accessible student restaurant on the ground floor. In addition, there is a training restaurant run by the Catering students, which offers excellent food at value-for-money prices.

£ £ Student life

£ £ Students are assigned a Personal Tutor to assist with their studies. We also have a dedicated International Office that offers a wide range of support and help, including advice on visas and renewal, English language testing and language support, free careers advice, and help in selecting a suitable university.

£ £ All students at Bournville College are automatically members of the Students' Union, which represents students. It provides sporting, social and cultural activities to make college life rewarding and fun. A major event in the year is our Autumn Welcome to International Students, which is a thoroughly enjoyable day of varied activities.
