Overview

City College Coventry was launched in February 2002. Although essentially new, the college has a long tradition in teaching and learning having been formed by the merger of Coventry Technical College and Tile Hill College.

Coventry Technical College can trace its roots back as far as 1828 but its present location was officially opened in 1935 by King George VI.

Tile Hill College opened in 1969 and soon developed a strong reputation in a number of course areas, particularly engineering.

City College Coventry is a large, general further education college with 600 permanent staff and another 200 part time teachers at any one time catering to some 14,000 students, of whom 2750 are full time. The annual turnover is £23m.

Famous for its cathedral and home to the famous Jaguar and Peugeot car companies, Coventry is a friendly, cosmopolitan city with a population of around 300,000. In the late 1940s, the city centre was extensively rebuilt, creating a modern shopping area for pedestrians, whilst acknowledging Coventry’s long history with the preservation of buildings dating back to the 14th century.

Coventry is close to Stratford Upon Avon, the birth place of William Shakespeare as well as many other places of historical signifiance and beauty.
